Church of San Martín, Romanesque church in Arévalo, Spain

The Church of San Martín features two distinct Mudéjar towers, with the oldest one decorated with chessboard patterns on its upper section.

The church dates from the 12th century and was founded by the Tapia family lineage knights as their burial and meeting place.

The interior contains Baroque altarpieces, Romanesque capitals, and remnants of paintings marking the transition from Romanesque to Gothic art.

The church now functions as the San Martín Church Cultural Center, hosting exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year.

The lower section of the Chess Tower contains an exceptional vault and might have been a minaret from an adjacent former mosque.
