Hospital civil d'Oliver

The Hospital Civil d'Oliver is a four-story building that spans an entire city block with two lateral T-shaped wings and a central section forming its main structure. The layout creates distinct zones that were originally designed to separate different patient groups within the same facility.

Construction of this hospital was completed in 1877 under the design of architect Geronimo Granell Mundet, made possible by funding from industrialist Agustín Oliver Domenech. The project represented a significant health infrastructure investment for the growing city.

The building demonstrates how the city designed its medical facilities to serve the community during the industrial era. Its layout with separate sections reflects the social and medical practices of the time and shows how the structure shaped daily life within its walls.

The site is located in the Santa Rosa neighborhood and now functions as a nursing home, preserving the original building layout with its separate wings. Visitors can see the overall arrangement of the structure, though some sections may not be freely accessible depending on current operations.

Inside the building, octagonal domes and stone-arched galleries channel natural light into the corridors through glazed sections. This architectural approach created bright, airy spaces, which was an advanced idea for medical facilities in the 1800s.
