Museo Histórico de Sagunto, Archaeological museum in Sagunto, Spain

The Museo Histórico de Sagunto is an archaeological museum located in a historic coastal city in eastern Spain and displays finds spanning several periods of this region's past. Across two floors, the space presents Bronze Age ceramics, Iberian vases, Roman architectural fragments, and other objects that illustrate how people lived in ancient times.

The collection began in 1787 when a local doctor created a space to preserve ancient inscriptions and artifacts from the surrounding area. The building now housing the museum has roots in later periods but contains within itself physical traces of earlier settlements that once occupied this place.

The limestone Iberian bull sculpture from the 4th century BC stands as the centerpiece of the collection, showing the artistic skills of ancient craftspeople who lived here. Religious statues and everyday objects on display reveal beliefs and social practices from thousands of years ago.

The museum is situated in the historic center of the city on Calle del Castillo and is easily reachable from other points of interest nearby. The exhibition is organized across two floors in a straightforward way, allowing visitors to walk through different time periods without confusion.

The building itself is an archaeological site, constructed over remains from Islamic times including an 11th-century burial ground that lies beneath its foundations. These layers of history are preserved literally under the visitors' feet, making the place a living record of different periods.
