Parque González Hontoria, Municipal park and garden in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain
Parque González Hontoria is a municipal park in Jerez de la Frontera with two distinct garden sections: Los Jardines de la Rosaleda and Los Jardines de El Bosque. The grounds feature diverse plant species including oriental planes, ficus trees, and Senegal palms spread across open green areas.
Mayor Julio González Hontoria established this park in 1902 on former vineyard land, creating two main axes: Avenida de las Palmeras and Calle Real. The project transformed agricultural land into a central recreational area for the city.
This space hosts the Feria del Caballo, a major horse festival each May that brings visitors from across Spain for equestrian competitions and celebrations. The event shapes the area's identity and fills the grounds with a festive spirit during spring months.
The park is located on Avenida Alcalde Álvaro Domecq and includes a restaurant along with numerous facilities for outdoor activities and family gatherings. Year-round events and community gatherings take place here across the grounds.
In 1898, a year before the park was officially established, one thousand children from fourteen local schools planted 500 oriental plane trees during the first tree festival in the city. This unusual action made young residents active participants in creating the green space.
