Enrique Tierno Galván Park covers 45 hectares in Legazpi, between the old Delicias railway station and the M-30 ring road. Its eastern edge holds four artificial ponds linked by small waterfalls, where model-boat enthusiasts sail; a flat wooden footbridge crosses the water. The Madrid Planetarium's white domes rise above the park.

Construction of the park began in 1985 under mayor Enrique Tierno Galván, who died before its inauguration on 10 May 1987, when it was dedicated to him. The land lies in Legazpi, between the old Delicias railway station, now the Railway Museum, and the M-30 ring road, an area long known as Cerro de la Plata for the coal soot from steam trains leaving Atocha and Delicias.

The open-air auditorium is built into a large dip in the ground, with concrete tiers covered in grass and seating for about 5,000 people. It hosted the OpenAir event in the summers of 2010 and 2011, and later festivals such as Brunch in the Park and Tomavistas, as well as political rallies.

The park is accessible via Arganzuela-Planetario or Méndez Álvaro metro stations on Line 6, with several entry points around the perimeter. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the grounds cover a large area with multiple zones to explore.

The park's name comes from Enrique Tierno Galván, the mayor who began the project in 1985; he died before its inauguration on 10 May 1987. A square inside the park holds a statue dedicated to him. The white domes of the Madrid Planetarium are visible from afar and serve as the park's main landmark.
