Santuario de Nuestra Señora de El Henar

The Santuario de Nuestra Señora de El Henar is a religious sanctuary located about 5 kilometers outside Cuéllar near the village of Viloria del Henar. The building displays 17th-century architecture surrounded by quiet rural landscape.

The sanctuary was constructed between 1642 and 1644, replacing a medieval chapel that stood in a settlement no longer in existence. This project responded to growing pilgrimage traditions in the area.

The sanctuary serves as a pilgrimage destination where visitors come to pray and leave offerings to the Virgin Mary. Local devotion to this holy place remains strong among residents of the surrounding region.

The sanctuary is accessible to visitors daily, with opening times varying by season. Visit early morning or late afternoon to experience the rural setting at a relaxed pace.

Inside the sanctuary stands a rare 12th-century wooden statue carved from walnut that displays Byzantine artistic influences. The dark patina of this wooden sculpture reflects its age and makes it a precious artistic witness to medieval craftsmanship.
