Tower of Cabrahigo, Medieval fortified tower in Isla, Spain
The Tower of Cabrahigo is a Gothic fortified structure with a rectangular base and thick masonry walls, rising on a hilltop in Arnuero. The building contains four levels topped with battlements and features minimal window openings along its stone surface.
The fortification was built during the 14th or 15th century and belonged to the Velarde family, whose member received the title of Constable of Castile in 1473. The structure underwent modifications during the Catholic Monarchs' reign, when additional windows were added following the territory's pacification.
The structure stands as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its historical importance.
The tower sits on a hillside location that offers commanding views of the surrounding area from above. The terrain can be variable depending on weather and season, so visitors should prepare accordingly for the outdoor setting.
The building underwent modifications during the Catholic Monarchs' reign, when one of its few windows was added following the territory's pacification period.
