Casa Montero

Casa Montero is a residential building in the Abando district of Bilbao designed with ornate decorative features covering its entire facade. The structure displays intricate patterns and elaborately framed windows that showcase the detailed craftsmanship of the period.

The house was built between 1899 and 1901 during a period when Bilbao and the Basque region experienced significant architectural growth. This era saw the region transform through the adoption of contemporary European design trends that reshaped urban development.

The building reflects the design principles of the Art Nouveau movement that spread through Bilbao at the turn of the 20th century. This European style deeply influenced how architects in the region approached both residential and public structures.

The house is located near the Abando metro station and can be reached on foot by walking east along Alameda de Recalde. The street is well-marked and the pedestrian route is flat and easy to navigate.

Two architects, Luis Aladrén and Jean Batiste Darroquy, collaborated on this project and merged their different perspectives into a cohesive design. The partnership between the local architect and his French colleague reflects the international connections that shaped the building style of this era.
