El Vado Reservoir, reservatório no rio Jarama, Espanha
El Vado Reservoir is a dam and water storage basin on the Jarama River in Guadalajara Province, Spain. It sits among low hills and open fields, with a shore path that runs along much of the water's edge.
The dam was built in the 1950s to improve water supply to nearby communities and reduce flooding along the Jarama. Before the reservoir existed, flour mills along the river had worked the same water for centuries.
The reservoir has long served as a gathering place where locals and visitors come to rest and watch the water. The open spaces and gentle paths invite people to pause and enjoy simple moments in nature.
The shore paths are flat and easy to follow on foot or by bicycle, and signs along the route help with orientation. On sunny days the area offers little shade, so bringing water is a good idea.
El Vado is one of several dams on the Jarama River that work together as a connected system, including El Atazar further downstream. Seeing one of them gives a clearer sense of how the whole river has been shaped over the decades.
