Forata Reservoir, Stausee in Spanien
The Forata Reservoir is a water storage facility built on the Magro river in Yátova, completed in 1969. It holds a maximum of 37 cubic hectometers across approximately 231 hectares and is managed by the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation for regional water supply and flow control.
The reservoir was constructed in 1969 to provide water supply and manage river flow for the region. The gravity dam structure has remained a stable feature of the area's infrastructure since its completion.
Several walking and cycling trails loop around the reservoir and connect to other regional routes. Easier paths follow the water's edge and work well for relaxed visits, while steeper sections appeal to more experienced mountain bikers.
The gravity dam structure is remarkably simple, relying solely on its own weight to hold back water. This straightforward engineering approach shows how human construction can blend seamlessly into the natural landscape.
