Sant Pere de Camprodon, Romanesque monastery and church in Camprodon, Spain.
Sant Pere de Camprodon is a Romanesque monastery and church featuring a Latin cross plan with four square apses and a central dome. The bell tower rises above with two stories capped by an octagonal lantern.
The monastery was founded in 901 and operated as a Benedictine establishment until 1932. At that time, deteriorating structures were demolished while the church was preserved.
The church interior holds tombs of former abbots, while the diocesan museum in Girona preserves original capitals from the old cloister. These remains reflect the monastic community that shaped this place for centuries.
The building remains an active religious site with regular services held throughout the year. Visitors should be prepared to encounter an active place of worship when exploring the architecture and history.
The main apse matches the exact width of the nave and opens toward both sides of the transept. This unusual spatial arrangement is rare in Romanesque architecture.
