Montfalcó Murallat

Montfalcó Murallat is a medieval fortified settlement in Les Oluges, Spain, surrounded by defensive stone walls. Fifteen stone houses are arranged in an oval shape along a single circular street that leads to a central square.

The settlement began in the eleventh century as an early community in the region. The stone defensive walls that surround the village today were built in the thirteenth century to protect the inhabitants.

The houses show traditional building methods using local stone, with thick walls and small openings typical of medieval mountain settlements. The circular arrangement of homes around a central plaza reflects how residents organized their daily lives around shared spaces and communal activities.

The village can only be entered through a single gateway, which serves as the only access point to this elevated fortified settlement. The path leads uphill, so visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to walk through the narrow streets at a relaxed pace.

The village features a traditional communal bread oven and a water collection cistern that served the entire community for centuries. These facilities reveal how residents collectively managed essential resources and worked together for survival.
