Monumento A Los Caídos

Monumento A Los Caídos, Memorial building in Second Ensanche, Pamplona, Spain

Monumento a los Caídos is a large stone structure that anchors Carlos III Avenue in Pamplona, with a central hall and an underground crypt beneath the main building. The structure occupies a central location between the modern district and the historical center, reachable via multiple public transportation routes.

The monument was built in 1942 following the Spanish Civil War and originally housed the remains of Generals Mola and Sanjurjo. Their remains were relocated when they were exhumed in 2016.

The memorial now serves as a municipal exhibition venue, having shifted from its original purpose as a tribute to those who participated in the conflict from Navarre. The space reflects how the meaning of monuments can evolve over time.

The location sits in central Pamplona and is easily reached by bus or on foot, as several transit lines serve the area. Keep in mind that its current use as an exhibition space means visiting hours apply for entry.

The monument ranks as Spain's second largest structure of this type, following Valle de Cuelgamuros in Madrid. This position underscores its architectural and historical weight within the national context.
