Sant Miquel de Montblanc

Sant Miquel de Montblanc is a medieval church featuring a single nave with a flat wooden coffered ceiling supported by pointed arches and interior buttresses. The interior space measures approximately 43 feet wide (13 meters), 103 feet long (31.5 meters), and 36 feet high (11 meters).

The church began as a Romanesque structure and was gradually expanded with Gothic elements over the medieval period. It gained political importance in the 14th century when it hosted the General Court of Catalonia on significant occasions.

The painted wooden ceiling displays geometric patterns, plant motifs, and heraldic symbols that reflect the skill of medieval artisans and the importance people placed on decorating sacred spaces.

The church sits in Montblanc's historic center and is easy to reach on foot from the main square and surrounding streets. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the adjacent areas feature cobblestone streets.

Five private chapels were added between the 14th and 15th centuries, replacing the original earthen walls with stone masonry. These additions show how wealthy families invested in personal worship spaces and burial sites within the church.
