Can Viver de Torrebonica

Can Viver de Torrebonica is a rectangular building in Noucentisme style located in Terrassa with clear geometric forms and structured proportions. The ground floor features semi-circular arches while three upper levels and two large towers with pyramidal roofs define its outline.

The site has roots going back to 1293 when it was known as Can Barba, with the land passing through several names and families over the centuries. The current building took shape between 1911 and 1929, designed according to Noucentisme principles by Josep Domènech i Mansana.

The name comes from generations of families and uses that shaped this place over centuries. Walking around, you notice how the classical, symmetrical design reflects the architectural style popular in early 20th-century Catalonia.

The building sits in a rural area outside central Terrassa and works best to visit by car. The surroundings are green and fairly quiet, so plan time to walk around and explore the exterior at a relaxed pace.

The building served as the Verge de Montserrat tuberculosis sanatorium starting in 1911, treating patients with the disease during a time when such facilities were vital. What began as a clinic with beds for thirty people eventually expanded to care for over a thousand patients.
