Castellarnau, 14th century fortified farm manor in Sabadell, Spain.
Castellarnau is a fortified farm estate from the 14th century in Sabadell with a two-story main house and a square defensive tower reaching seventeen meters tall. A separate chapel faces the main entrance, completing the rural property complex.
The defensive tower was built in 1575 as a result of rivalry between two local families competing to construct the tallest structure in the area. About a century later a merchant acquired the property and the complex became known by his family name.
The estate reflects traditional Catalan architecture that merged comfort with defense through its medieval tower and original stone walls. Visitors can still see how these rural properties blended everyday living with protection from the countryside.
The property now operates as a restaurant and event venue with multiple rooms and a modern pavilion available for celebrations and business gatherings. Visitors should know the site functions mainly as a private event space, so access may depend on scheduled activities or special arrangements.
Two wealthy families became so competitive about building the tallest structure that their rivalry directly led to the construction of this distinctive tower. This local contest between landowners left a physical mark on the countryside that still stands today.
