Sabadell, Industrial city in Vallès Occidental, Spain
Sabadell is a large city in Vallès Occidental, located about 20 kilometers north of Barcelona, organized into seven administrative districts. The municipality spreads over an area at an average elevation of 190 meters above sea level and is part of the Barcelona metropolitan region.
The settlement grew from the Roman village of Arragone, which later split into two separate communities before they merged in the 14th century. During the 19th century, the municipality expanded rapidly through wool production and became one of the most important manufacturing centers in Catalonia.
The city center displays numerous examples of modernist architecture from the period of industrial growth, with facades full of Art Nouveau ornamentation and crafted details. Many of these buildings now house shops or offices, showing the transition from production sites to service centers.
Several railway lines connect the municipality directly with Barcelona, allowing travelers quick access to both locations. Most points of interest and shops are within walking distance in the center, making it easy to find your way around.
The banking sector gained such importance here that the municipality founded its own bank, which later became one of the largest in Spain. This banking tradition is still visible today in several historical buildings in the city center that once served as branches or headquarters.
