This church was built in 1940 to replace an earlier 18th-century building that was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939. The reconstruction marked the return of religious life to the town after the conflict.

The old rectory facing the church has been kept and is set to become the Municipal Archive of Cornellà. The present church was blessed in 1948, three years after its first stone was laid in 1940.

The church stands on the same site as its predecessor but is rotated 180 degrees, so the old rectory that once faced it now stands behind it. That former rectory has been kept and is set to become the Municipal Archive.
