Fossar de la Pedrera

Fossar de la Pedrera is a memorial site at Montjuïc Cemetery with stone columns, tombstones, and a mausoleum arranged in garden grounds. The layout includes sections with inscribed names and separate areas dedicated to different groups of those commemorated.

This site became a burial ground following the Spanish Civil War when people who suffered political persecution were laid to rest here. Over the following years, it transformed into a formal memorial recognizing those losses.

The place bears the name of Lluís Companys, the Catalan president buried here, whose memory draws visitors seeking to honor those lost. Flowers and wreaths left by visitors show how people continue to mark this ground as a space for remembrance.

Access is through a gate on Mare de Déu de Port Street where visitors enter the grounds. Plan enough time to walk through the different sections and read the inscriptions without rushing.
