Palacio de Santa Clara, Algorta

Palacio de Santa Clara is a palace in Getxo featuring white stone details and irregularly arranged floors connected by passages and green spaces. The building includes a crenellated tower and is surrounded by a perimeter stone wall that gives it the appearance of a traditional castle.

Architects José María de Basterra and Manuel María Smith designed this structure in 1902 with Victorian architectural influences. The design reflected contemporary European artistic styles that wealthy families favored during that era.

The palace reflects how wealthy Spanish families of the early 1900s chose to design their homes, visible in its layout and construction choices. The way rooms connect through passages and gardens shows how the residents valued both privacy and open living spaces.

The building now houses administrative offices and serves mainly for official purposes. Visitors should be aware that access may be limited since it functions as an active government building.

The crenellated tower and surrounding wall are designed to resemble a medieval fortress rather than a typical residential palace. This was an intentional choice to make the building appear more fortified and imposing than the usual villas in the area.
