Jardins del Príncep de Girona, garden in El Baix Guinardó, Spain

Welcome to the Baix Guinardó Gardens, located in the Horta-Guinardó district of Barcelona. These gardens were previously known as the Prince of Gerona Gardens and were created in 1995 by Jordi Farrando's project. In the 1980s, the old Gerona Cavalry barracks, along with other military quarters in the city, were sold by the Ministry of Defense to the Barcelona City Council. In 1995, nearly two hectares of land were transformed into a public park, according to the architect Jordi Farrando's plan. The reference to the military era was maintained, and the new green area was named after Felipe de Borbón, who held the title of Prince of Gerona at that time. The gardens were named the Prince of Gerona Gardens. In 2013, the gardens expanded by 2500 m² with the demolition of the old military residences still existing on the side of Travessera de Gràcia. To decide the uses of the new space and the park in general, on October 26, 2014, the City Council organized a participatory process among residents in the area. One of the actions requested by the neighbors was the change of the green area's name, leading to four proposals: Baix Guinardó Gardens, Lake Park, Republic Park, and Princess Leonor Gardens. After much deliberation, the name Baix Guinardó Gardens was chosen. The Baix Guinardó Gardens are a beautiful and peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. The park is an excellent place for a relaxing stroll or a picnic with friends and family. The park features a playground for children, a basketball court, and a ping pong table. There are also several benches throughout the park where visitors can sit and enjoy the scenery. The gardens are home to a variety of trees, plants, and flowers, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers. The park's centerpiece is a beautiful fountain that adds to the park's peaceful ambiance. Visitors can also enjoy the stunning views of the city from the gardens. Overall, the Baix Guinardó Gardens are a must-visit destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy some peace and tranquility. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this park is an excellent place to spend a few hours and soak up the beauty of Barcelona.
