Paseo marítimo Carmen de Burgos, Pedestrian esplanade in Almería, Spain.

The Paseo Marítimo Carmen de Burgos is a wide waterfront promenade stretching about 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) along several beach sections directly beside the Mediterranean Sea. The path provides continuous access to restaurants, shops, and water fountains throughout its length.

Development of the waterfront began in 1982 and was completed in 1986, transforming the coastal area into an organized promenade. The area was formally renamed in 2011 to honor the writer for whom it is now known.

The promenade was named after Carmen de Burgos, an influential writer born in Almería in the late 1800s, honoring her contributions to Spanish letters. This choice reflects the city's pride in its literary heritage and connection to her life and work.

The walkway is well-paved and wide enough for various users, from pedestrians to cyclists, with plenty of space for strolling. Watch for regular markets that operate along the promenade, as these can affect foot traffic and walking ease.

Since 2018, sculptures by artist Manuel Domínguez including 'El Acróbata' and 'La Tumbona' dot the promenade, creating unexpected art moments along the coast. These installations often go unnoticed by visitors focused only on the sea views and dining options.
