Església Major

Església Major is a Neo-Gothic church in Santa Coloma de Gramenet featuring a single nave and a prominent bell tower that rises above the structure. The building displays characteristic vertical elements and pointed forms typical of Neo-Gothic architectural design.

Construction began in 1912 and replaced an earlier Baroque church that had stood on the same site. The architect Francesc Berenguer i Mestres oversaw the project, which was completed in 1915.

Locals have called this church 'the cathedral' since it was finished, struck by how much larger and grander it appeared compared to other buildings around it. This nickname shows how the place became a defining landmark for the community.

During the Spanish Civil War in 1936, the building survived a fire but was temporarily used as a storage facility. The parish archives were destroyed during this period, though the structure itself remained standing.
