Muralles de Girona

The sandstone walls encircle the old town of Girona with multiple observation towers and narrow arrow slits embedded in the fortification structure.

The Romans constructed the initial walls in 1 B.C., which later served as the foundation for a complete reconstruction during the 14th century.

The walls demonstrate the evolution of defensive architecture from Roman to medieval periods, with sections revealing different construction techniques and materials.

Visitors can access the walls through multiple entry points and complete the entire circuit in approximately two hours, viewing the city from different angles.

The eastern section of the walls contains the Torre Gironella, featuring a spiral staircase leading to a viewpoint of Girona's terracotta rooftops and Pyrenees Mountains.
