Embassament de Núria, Stausee in Spanien
The Embassament de Núria is a small reservoir in the Núria valley at about 1950 meters elevation, formed by a 25 meter high dam that stores water from the Núria river. The water surface covers roughly 2 hectares and supplies irrigation water and drinking water to local homes and farms.
The dam was built in 1962 to manage water from the Núria region more efficiently and secure irrigation and drinking water for local communities. The construction changed the landscape only slightly, creating a peaceful place in the mountains.
The name refers to the Núria valley where the reservoir sits. The area shows how people have lived in harmony with the mountains for generations, and old shepherd shelters and traditional buildings tell this long story of connection to the land.
The area sits at high elevation with cool air year-round, and winter often brings snow to higher regions. Access is possible by car, and well-marked walking trails lead to higher points like Puigmal, making it easy to explore the surroundings.
Though the water is cold and comes from high elevation, it has a clear surface that perfectly mirrors the sky and surrounding peaks. This unexpected clarity makes every visit a moment of calm and beauty that many visitors discover with surprise.
