Pont de Sant Jordi

Pont de Sant Jordi is a concrete arch bridge that spans across the Serpis River valley with a bold, curving design. The structure rests on thick supports and displays the hallmarks of Art Deco styling throughout its form.

Construction started in 1925 based on earlier plans from 1876, with architect Victor Eusa completing the project in 1931. The bridge was part of Alcoy's effort to modernize and expand during the early 20th century.

The bridge shows Art Deco design with curved lines and geometric forms that make it stand out in the cityscape. It links older neighborhoods with newer areas, creating a visual bridge between different periods of urban growth.

The bridge is easily accessible via Avenida Pont de Sant Jordi and offers a clear passage between the city center and the Horta Major area. Walking across it is the best way to appreciate the architectural details and views of the river valley below.

The bridge remarkably survived bombing during the 1938 Civil War, proving the strength of its concrete construction. This resilience made it a symbol of the city's own ability to endure and rebuild.
