Chimney of bòbila Almirall, Industrial chimney in Terrassa, Spain.
The Chimney of bòbila Almirall is a tall brick structure that tapers gradually from its wide base toward the top. Inside, an iron spiral staircase connects multiple viewing platforms and makes the structure accessible from bottom to top.
The chimney was built in 1956 by master mason Marià Masana Ribas to serve as a smoke outlet for the Almirall brick factory. The factory itself had started operations in 1910 and was an important workplace in the region for several decades.
The structure represents vernacular architecture and maintains its status as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest, registered under code IPA-28211 in the Catalan heritage list.
You can access the interior through multiple platforms that are connected by a fixed staircase system. Wear sturdy footwear and be careful in wet weather, as the metal surfaces inside become slippery when damp.
The structure was recognized in 1991 and entered into the Guinness Book of Records for its unusually tall interior spiral staircase. This distinction made it a notable example of 20th-century engineering and construction innovation.
