Escola Pia de Terrassa, Schulgebäude in Spanien
Escola Pia de Terrassa is a school building in historicist style located in Terrassa, Spain. It was originally designed as a large rectangular structure with two main floors plus a ground floor arranged around a central courtyard.
The building was designed in the 1860s by architect Francesc Daniel Molina and completed by Pere Comerma. In the 1940s it was expanded with a southern wing that included a chapel with three aisles and elaborate mosaics.
The school has long served as an important institution for the city's prominent families seeking quality education for their children. It also functioned as a community shelter and gathering place during difficult periods, weaving itself into the fabric of local identity.
The building sits on a hilltop and is clearly visible from nearby streets, particularly due to its distinctive octagonal tower. Visitors can explore its extensive history through well-preserved architecture and original details that remain visible throughout the structure.
The octagonal tower was originally built to support the school wall and protect it from damage, creating a distinctive silhouette from every angle. The chapel in the southern wing contains mosaics created by artist Santiago Padrós in the twentieth century.
