Plaça de Braus de Figueres

The Plaça de Braus de Figueres is an octagonal building completed in 1894 that once hosted bullfights and public gatherings. Its main entrance features a large horseshoe-shaped arch with 'PLAÇA DE TOROS' carved above it in stone, while the roofline is decorated with repeated pointed battlements, and smaller arched openings frame the sides below.

The building opened in 1894 and served as a venue for bullfights and civic celebrations for over a century. After bullfighting was banned in Catalonia in 2012, the arena fell into disuse and has remained closed for many years.

The bullring takes its name from the tradition of bullfighting, which shaped local entertainment for generations. Visitors can still see faded posters and markings on the walls that speak to its former purpose in the community.

The site is located on Calle del Far in the center of Figueres and is easily accessible on foot. Since the building is currently closed to the public, visitors can view and photograph the historic facade from the outside.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the arena hosted not just bullfights but also concerts with famous bands and singers. This unexpected cultural use reveals how the community found creative ways to keep the space active before it eventually closed.
