Sant Pere de Reixac, Romanesque parish church in Montcada i Reixac, Spain.
Sant Pere de Reixac is a Romanesque parish church built on the western slope of Conreria at about 191 meters elevation, featuring two parallel naves that each terminate in an eastern-facing apse. The building shows the solid, straightforward construction typical of medieval stone churches, with its structural elements clearly visible in the masonry.
The site first appears in written records in 963, and the church received its consecration from Bishop Guilabert of Barcelona on December 28, 1048. This early documentation shows that the location had already become an established religious center in the region.
The church has served as the spiritual center for the community of Reixac, where locals have practiced their faith for generations. It remains a gathering point for religious celebrations and everyday rituals that mark the rhythm of village life.
You can reach the church via a walking path that starts either at kilometer 7 on the Montcada-Badalona road or at kilometer 8.9 on the Sant Adrià-La Roca road. The terrain is hilly, so comfortable hiking shoes and extra time for the climb are recommended for most visitors.
The bell tower displays two distinct construction periods: the square base dates from the 11th century, while the oval upper section was added in the 17th century. This blend of two eras is clearly visible in the tower and tells the story of repairs and modifications made over the centuries.
