Discovered in 1909 during excavations, the statue combines Parian marble for the upper section and Pentelic marble for the lower portion, dating to the late second century BC.

The statue originally stood in a temple that functioned as a medical pilgrimage center, representing either Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine, or Serapis.

The sculpture remains on display at the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya in Empúries, where visitors can examine its detailed construction and historical significance.
