The Church of San Francisco de Asís is a modern structure in Zaramaga with simple geometric lines and clean surfaces that reflect 1970s design principles. Inside, the minimalist layout now functions as an exhibition space where historical documents and contemporary artworks are displayed together.

The church was built between 1969 and 1970 to a design by architect Luis Peña Ganchegui, the only church he ever designed, commissioned by Bishop Francisco Peralta. On 3 March 1976 a general strike assembly of some 4,000 people was held here; police stormed the temple, killing five workers and injuring hundreds. The building has not been used for worship since 2015.

The building now serves as a memorial space where visitors encounter photographs and artworks documenting the social movements and lived experiences of the 1970s. These displays help people understand how this place mattered to the community during a pivotal time.

The space is open for visits, and guided tours can be arranged through a local association dedicated to documenting the history. Check ahead to confirm visiting times, as the building primarily functions as an exhibition venue rather than an active place of worship.

The building has not been used for worship since 2015, and since 2020 it has had no public activity. One room, run by the 3 March-Martxoak 3 Victims and Families Association, shows a documentary on the 1976 events, artistic images of the police repression and portraits of the five workers killed.
