Fuente de los Baños de Montanejos, Natural thermal spring fountain in Montanejos, Spain
The Fuente de los Baños de Montanejos is a natural thermal spring set inside a limestone canyon near the village of Montanejos, in eastern Spain. The warm mineral water collects in several natural pools along the riverbed, with depths that range from ankle-deep to well above the waist.
The healing properties of this spring were first formally studied and recorded in the early 18th century. During the 19th century the site gained official recognition as a therapeutic bathing place, which brought it wider attention beyond the local area.
The name "Baños" simply means "baths," reflecting how this spot has long served as a communal place to wash and soak. Today you can still see families and older locals spending hours in the water, treating the visit more like a social outing than a tourist activity.
The water stays warm all year, so there is no bad season to visit. Bring swimwear and a towel since there are no changing rooms or other facilities on site.
The spring releases water so continuously and forcefully that the pools never become stagnant, keeping the water naturally clean without any treatment. In winter, the contrast between the warm water and the cold air creates a visible mist that rises above the surface.
