Ancient Roman aqueduct of Gades, Roman aqueduct system in Cádiz, Spain

The aqueduct extends for 83 kilometers from the Tempul springs to Cádiz, incorporating parallel tubes and limestone blocks for water transportation.

The structure dates from the first century AD and supplied between 6,000 and 8,000 cubic meters of water daily to support the population and fish-sauce industry.

The engineering methods employed in the construction demonstrate Roman technical expertise through the use of siphon systems and perforated limestone components.

Recent storms revealed previously hidden sections of the aqueduct, allowing researchers to study ancient construction techniques and water management systems.

The aqueduct includes a 3.5-kilometer siphon section that drops 100 meters while crossing the Salado de Paterna valley through a bridge structure.
