Torre Tavira II

Torre Tavira II is a modern broadcasting tower rising 45 meters above the old town of Cádiz, transmitting television and radio signals to the region. Its structure combines contemporary telecommunications technology with the dense historic buildings that surround it in the narrow streets.

The tower was designed and built in 1992 by architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra to meet the broadcasting needs of the region. Its construction marked the shift from Cádiz's traditional role as a port city to its modernization as a communications hub.

The tower takes its name from a historic watchtower that once dominated the city, carrying forward the memory of Cádiz's maritime past. Visitors sense this connection between old and new as they walk through the historic district, where the structure blends into daily city life.

The tower stands on Calle Marques del Real Tesoro in the old town and is visible from the surrounding narrow streets. It is best explored on foot to appreciate both the structure itself and the historic buildings that frame it.

Although the tower serves a completely modern function, its design was carefully adapted to fit respectfully into the historic old town landscape. This makes it a quiet example of how contemporary infrastructure can integrate thoughtfully into ancient city centers.
