Capilla del Santísimo, Catedral de Palma

The Capilla del Santísimo is a Gothic chapel in Palma Cathedral featuring a large ceramic mural with marine life and biblical elements across its walls. The artwork includes detailed reliefs of fish, octopuses, and bread alongside a human-shaped form representing Christ.

Originally a traditional Gothic structure, the chapel underwent complete transformation between 2001 and 2006 under artist Miquel Barceló. This renovation introduced contemporary art installations that integrated Mediterranean influences into the sacred space.

The chapel named Santísimo blends Mediterranean imagery with religious symbolism in its artistic details. Visitors see representations of sea creatures and bread on the walls, connecting everyday elements with spiritual meaning.

The chapel is accessible during cathedral opening hours and is best visited as part of a cathedral tour. Allow time to examine the ceramic details and windows up close, as many visitors overlook this artistic installation.

Large windows with grisaille-toned stained glass cast soft, shifting light across the artwork, creating a visually different experience depending on the time of day. The furniture is crafted from local Binissalem stone, creating a deep connection between the installation and the island region.
