Casa de Correus i Telègrafs, Post office building in Gothic Quarter, Barcelona, Spain.
Casa de Correus i Telègrafs is a classicist office building in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona that occupies an entire city block with four facades and a columned entrance porch. The interior has a basement level, two main floors, an attic, and a rooftop terrace that can be accessed by visitors.
The building was designed in 1914 by architects Josep Goday i Casals and Jaume Torres i Grau, originally planned to be ready for an international exposition. Construction took place between 1926 and 1928, and it has since served as the main postal headquarters of the city.
The facades are decorated with sculptures made by local artists, showing themes of communication that reflect the original purpose of the building. These works are visible from the street and easy to observe while walking through the quarter.
The building sits in the heart of the Gothic Quarter and is easy to find from the surrounding streets. A visit to the rooftop terrace is best planned during quieter times of day for a more comfortable experience.
Three circular towers rise above the roofline and are linked to a neighboring building by a bridge at height. This connection between the two buildings draws the eye upward and is clearly visible from street level.
