Tossal del Mortòrum, Archaeological site in Cabanes, Spain
The archaeological remains are situated on a hill overlooking the coastal plain of Ribera de Cabanes, Torreblanca, and Oropesa in eastern Spain.
Excavations reveal continuous human occupation from 1950 to 550 BCE, spanning the Bronze Age through the early Iron Age with significant Phoenician influences.
The burial mound contains a central chamber bordered by vertical slabs supported by large stone blocks, containing remains of at least five individuals.
Since 2015, visitors can explore the site through a marked trail with informative panels explaining the archaeological discoveries and historical significance.
The Latin name Mortorum refers to a place connected with the dead, corresponding to the discovery of burial grounds dating back to medieval times.
