Playa de la Caleta

Playa de la Caleta is an urban beach in Cádiz that sits between two historic fortresses at either end. The shallow, calm waters and soft sand make it a natural gathering spot for locals and visitors seeking a sheltered swimming experience.

This location served as a trading harbor for Phoenician and Roman sailors in antiquity, with archaeological remains still visible along the shoreline. The two fortresses were built centuries later to protect the city from maritime attacks.

Local fishermen continue the centuries-old tradition of maintaining their small wooden boats on the beach, painting them in bright colors and repairing nets daily.

The beach has lifeguards on duty during summer months and facilities like restrooms, showers, and accessible entry points throughout. Parking is available nearby, making it convenient for a half-day visit without needing to plan extensive travel beforehand.

The beach was transformed into a Caribbean coastline for a 2000s spy film and served as a major filming location. The production brought international attention to this local swimming spot.
