Castillo, Medieval castle in Baena, Spain
The fortress features seven towers, including two notable doorway-towers: the Arco Oscuro arch and the arch of Santa Barbara, connected by wooden walkways.
Built in the ninth century on Roman foundations, the castle underwent expansions during the Almoravid and Almohad periods following attacks by Omar Ibn Hafsun.
The Arco Oscuro tower contains a room with Mudéjar coffering that served as the meeting place for the first regional councils.
The castle, located at Plaza del Palacio in Baena, Córdoba, welcomes visitors who can reach the administration office at +34 957671757.
The restoration incorporated iroko wood walkways with stainless steel components, connecting different towers while facilitating rainwater evacuation throughout the structure.
