Castillo

Castillo in Baena is a medieval fortress with seven towers, including two prominent gateway towers: the Arco Oscuro and Santa Barbara arch. Wooden walkways connect these towers throughout the structure, creating passages between the different sections.

The fortress was built during the ninth century on Roman foundations and expanded during the Almoravid and Almohad periods following attacks by Omar Ibn Hafsun. These construction phases shaped the structure that stands today.
