Vadomojón reservoir is a large water basin located between Jaén and Córdoba provinces, surrounded by rolling hills and open plains. The water is fed by two rivers and forms a calm body of water that stretches across a significant area.
The reservoir was built starting in 1993 and completed in 1997 to store water for irrigation and flood control in the region. Its creation changed how local farmers could irrigate their fields during dry periods.
The name comes from the Guadajoz river that flows through the basin. Locals and visitors regularly use the area for walking, fishing, or picnicking on the quiet banks, keeping it a place where people connect with the water that sustains their communities.
The best times to visit are early mornings or late afternoons, especially during warmer months when temperatures are more comfortable. Bring comfortable shoes, drinking water, and a camera, as there are no large facilities or shops nearby.
A small hydroelectric plant was completed in 2015 and now generates enough electricity for over a thousand homes. This modern facility shows how the ancient water systems of the region now provide clean energy while serving its traditional purpose.
