Monasterio de Nuestra Señora del Espino, Gothic monastery in Vivar del Cid, Spain.
The Monastery of Our Lady of the Hawthorn features a Gothic architectural design with stone walls and religious motifs throughout its structure.
In 1475, Pedro López de Padilla and Isabel Pacheco obtained permission from Pope Sixtus IV to establish this monastery for the Poor Clare nuns.
The monastery held the original manuscript of the Cantar de Mio Cid, a fundamental medieval Spanish epic poem, until its removal in 1776.
Visitors can attend daily liturgical services at 8:45 AM on weekdays and at 10:00 AM on Sundays and holidays.
The Poor Clare nuns produce handmade treats including chocolate chestnuts, white nougat, butter delicacies, marzipan, and almond sticks.
