Laida

Laida is a golden sand beach in Ibarrangelu featuring shallow waters near the shoreline that gradually deepen and become more turbulent. The wide, open shoreline with natural sand provides ample space for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports.

The beach developed at the Mundaka estuary mouth as a natural harbor where fishing boats and merchant vessels anchored for centuries. Its protected position made it a preferred spot for maritime activity and trade along the Basque coast.

The beach represents a gathering point for the Basque community, where local fishermen share knowledge of traditional fishing methods with younger generations.

The beach has parking areas, shower facilities, restrooms, and lifeguards present during summer months. Access by car is straightforward via road Bi-3234, which leads directly to the shoreline.

The bay experiences strong tidal shifts that transform the landscape twice daily, reshaping which parts are submerged or exposed. Surfers and swimmers experience markedly different conditions depending on the state of the tide.
