Platja de Coma-ruga, Urban beach in El Vendrell, Spain.
Platja de Coma-ruga is a coastal stretch in El Vendrell that runs 2100 meters (6890 feet) along the Catalan Costa Daurada. A promenade lined with palm trees runs parallel to the shore along the entire length.
The shore evolved from a fishing village into a destination during the development of Costa Daurada in the 1950s. Hotels and residential buildings appeared along the coast in the following decades.
During summer months people gather here to enjoy Catalan music and regional food directly on the sand. Families return year after year, continuing a tradition that connects the community to the Mediterranean way of life.
Showers, restrooms, lifeguards, rental equipment and several restaurants are available along the waterfront. Between June and September all facilities operate and the water is warm enough for swimming.
Certain areas are set aside for mud treatments, a local health practice maintained over several generations. Visitors can still use this traditional therapy based on the mineral content of coastal sediment.
