Balanegra

Balanegra is an extensive sandy shore along the Andalusian coast in Almería province, featuring a distinctive olive-toned sand mixed with gravel. The beach extends for roughly 2600 meters and spans about 50 meters wide, offering a natural setting along the Mediterranean.

The location began as a small harbor and anchorage for trading ships crossing the Mediterranean. Over time, the settlement expanded and became the coastal destination that exists today.

Local people come to swim and relax here, especially as evening approaches when the heat eases. The beach is woven into the daily rhythm of the area, where families and friends naturally gather by the water.

Showers, toilets, and lifeguarded swimming areas are available, with parking space for more than 100 vehicles. Visitors should prepare for strong sunshine and bring sun protection, especially during summer months.

The name Balanegra may derive from Arabic origins referring to a dark hand, reflecting the region's long maritime heritage. This linguistic connection hints at the various cultural influences that have shaped this coastline.
