El Molinar Reservoir, reservoir in Spain
El Molinar Reservoir is a dam facility in Albacete Province located along the Júcar River in a steep canyon landscape. The water surface covers roughly 10 hectares and is contained by a simple earth dam structure that manages the river's flow through the narrow gorge.
An initial hydroelectric facility was constructed in 1907 by Hidroeléctrica Española to generate power from the river's force. Following Spain's civil conflict, a larger dam was built starting in 1948 that flooded the original installation and created the present water body.
Access is from the town of Ves through a parking area near the dam, with walking paths starting from this point along the canyon. Visitors should know that routes are narrow, vegetation can be dense, and summer heat is intense, so visits in autumn or spring are more comfortable.
An abandoned hydroelectric facility with ruins sits partially submerged or along the banks, with old turbines and machinery marking past industrial work. A long dark tunnel once connected the dam to this plant, carrying water through the mountain interior to generate electricity.
