Som Connexió, Telecommunications cooperative in El Prat de Llobregat, Spain
Som Connexió is a cooperative in El Prat de Llobregat that provides mobile phone and fiber internet services through the Orange network infrastructure across Spain. Members pay an initial contribution of 100 euros and gain voting rights in regular assemblies to access these services.
The cooperative was founded in 2014 when two independent groups, Eticom from El Prat and Som Connexió from Rubí, merged with 300 initial members. This joining allowed them to build a larger network and serve more people across the region.
The cooperative engages directly with its users and employs professionals from varied backgrounds including political science, youth education, and sustainable farming. This diversity shapes how the organization approaches its work and interacts with members.
To become a member, you pay an initial 100-euro contribution and can participate in regular assemblies where you have voting power. Access to mobile and internet services happens through the existing Orange network, with the cooperative acting as an intermediary.
The organization runs a device reuse program instead of selling new phones, focusing on sustainable solutions in telecommunications. This approach cuts down electronic waste and makes communication technology accessible to people who cannot afford new equipment.
