Villalonso Castle

Villalonso Castle is a medieval fortress in northern Spain with four corner towers and a sturdy keep rising from the north wall. The entire structure was constructed from stone in a square formation, creating a compact design easy to defend.

The fortress was built in the late medieval period and served in the 15th century as a refuge for local noble families during the wars that shook the region. The Count of Marialba sought shelter there after being driven out from the nearby town of Toro.

The castle reflects the architectural style of the Valladolid School, which shaped many northern Spanish fortifications in the 15th century. Its square layout with corner towers and central keep demonstrates the design principles typical of that era.

Visitors can explore the restored castle through guided tours arranged by the current owners. Advance planning is recommended, as the site hosts special events such as weddings throughout the year.

Excavations at the site uncovered kitchen utensils from the 15th and 16th centuries, revealing what castle residents ate back then. These finds offer a rare glimpse into the daily life of medieval fortress inhabitants.
