Bolueta Tower is an 88-meter tall residential building housing 171 apartments across 28 floors, distinguished by its silver aluminum panel exterior. The structure was designed to the Passivhaus standard to significantly reduce energy consumption.
The tower was constructed starting in 2015 and completed in 2018, marking the transformation of the former industrial area into a modern residential neighborhood. IDOM designed the project as a sign of Bilbao's urban renewal.
The tower represents Bilbao's shift from an industrial city to a modern residential hub centered on sustainability. Visitors can see this urban transformation reflected in its silver exterior.
The building follows the Passivhaus standard and saves about 75 percent energy compared to conventional residential buildings in the region. The efficient construction allows comfort with lower operating costs.
The tower holds the record as the world's tallest certified Passivhaus building, surpassing a student residence in New York. This achievement makes it a special example of sustainable architecture at a large scale.
