Puente de Miraflores, Bilbao, Road bridge in Ibaiondo district, Bilbao, Spain.
Puente de Miraflores is a concrete road bridge spanning 316 meters across the Nervión River in Bilbao, featuring a prominent central arch. The structure rises 45 meters above water level and connects major routes through the city using numerous support columns.
The bridge opened in 1995 and was the first new elevated crossing of the Nervión since 1972. It was built to improve traffic flow and connections in the expanding city.
Engineers Juan Jose Arenas de Pablo and Marcos Pantaleón designed this concrete structure with twenty-eight columns supporting its monumental central arch.
The bridge connects several neighborhoods and is open to both vehicles and pedestrians around the clock. Access is free and there are no tolls or restrictions for regular crossing.
The bridge opened quietly without an official ceremony because authorities feared local protests. This made it one of the most low-key inaugurations of a major structure in the city.
